I'm kinda stuck in...

The Weird Zone...

I am pretty much done the first book.
Now I wait for my uber-editor to go through it, then I do the revisions and send it to my agent.

But that means Book Two is calling.

But...I'm having a hard time diving in. Which is weird. Really weird. I've been itching to get going on this book for ages, and now?

It's so bad, I thought of cleaning my fridge instead of writing.

Read that again...

THIS IS NOT GOOD!!!!

Okay, leave me your advice for cranking up the energy to get going...

  1. Blogger ate my first comment... I think. I would have fixed it a sandwich.

Try writing a journal type entry from each of your main characters, expressing what it is they want and why it looks like never happening, and all those other great things Donald Maass posted about at Writer Unboxed yesterday. Let them spill their guts.

That post got me over a rough patch in my own writing. It's going better today. I was so caught up in getting the historical aspects right in a certain scene, that I was paying no attention to the character who was moving through it like a puppet, not like a man with a heart full of longings and losses.

    1. That was a great post, wasn't it?
I think I'm going to give the characters some time to spill their guts.
And I totally know what you mean about the historical aspects , that was one of my walls! I need to forget about making my first draft perfect!!!!

  2. Sit down and start typing. Within 10 minutes you'll wonder what the hold up was.

But you're right, just keep typing!

  4. Sit at your computer and open three documents. The first is an idea page-- The second is an outline page -- The third is a "let's just write" page. One page will call to you. I've written 2,000 sermons and a few books this way. I like to call it, "ADD can kiss my A_ _" well, maybe just in my head.

  5. Start out your first sentence like this... "Once upon a time there was a grasshopper who loved raspberry waffles..."

  6. Just remember that if you don't write it, it won't be written, and that there are people, past and present, who are depending on you to tell the story.

  7. I love PJ's suggestion!

I was going to suggest doing oen of the three, because one leads to the other two. However, I like PJ's idea better...start all three and see which one draws your attention.
